Remembrance Day

Today is the day we mark and remember all of those who have died and suffered in wars and conflicts. We remember those who have served our country and those who continue to serve us still in the Armed Forces. We must be grateful for what they gave and continue to give so that we may live the way we do. The only sorrow is that there continues to be conflict in many parts of the world today, and many people who have given their lives for us.

We remember those who gave their today for our tomorrow.

We will remember them.

For the Fallen

Poem by Robert Laurence Binyon (1869-1943), published in The Times newspaper on 21st September 1914.

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,

England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain,
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.

Student Troubles

One of the many troubles a student may go through is the impossible decision of what to eat and if you have the energy or motivation to cook. Ultimately it will boil down to something quick, easy, and unhealthy. If you have the money (a rare occurrence) you'll order a takeaway. Whether it be pizza, chinese food, or a cheeky Nandos. But it's the impossible choice of what to eat that makes it difficult.

This is the choice that plagues me when I'm tired, hungry, simply cannot be bothered to cook, or all of the above! Why is it so hard to choose? I suppose when you're hungry you'll want to eat anything in sight or you just don't want anything in particular as it doesn't take your fancy.

For these days that happen all too often, I suggest some pre-made food that can be kept in the freezer  or in a cupboard so all you'd have to do is heat up! All the effort on a day you have the energy to be productive put to use on a day you don't have any energy.

If you have any experiences, recipes or ideas you'd like to share then please leave a comment below!

Have a lovely day! :)

3 Years?!

Wow! It's been over 3 years since I last posted on this blog!

So much has happened in that time. I managed to get into university to study Nutrition. I met some awesome people and some not so awesome people. I've met people who I thought were friends of mine and now I no longer consider them to be.

I am going to try to keep up to date on this blog, posting about my life and sharing things I've learned and think are interesting, as well as sharing things that I think should be shared!

So share, comment and join me in my life while I attempt to keep on top of it :D

Because of this I went on a camp last week and loved every minute of it! :D

"I'm leaving"

Here is my second coursework piece I have written for English Language Coursework. Enjoy!

I’m Leaving
You did it. You. With your perfect figure. Perfect skin. How could you? He was mine you bitch! First, you took him away. You. The one I trusted. The one I cared for when you were down. You were my priority. We had been friends for so long. I hate how much control you had over me! But this is where it ends. You’ve gone too far. I’ve had enough of your games and your mind twisting ways. That’s it now. I’m leaving.

The torment you gave me will not leave my mind. I hate you.  How could you be so cruel? You took everything away from me. My friends, my social life, my life full stop. My parents are ill from worry because of you. They think I’m going to harm myself like last time. That was because of you too. Why?! Why would you torment me so much that I hurt myself? Why would you destroy my chances of being popular, of starting again? You’re cruel, mean and selfish, bitch. I’m leaving.

I started this school hopeful. I wanted a fresh new start. I wanted new friends, but keeping the old ones of course. I would have dropped you in an instant if I could have seen what would happen. It sounds cruel but you’re worse. I should have known from the start you weren’t right in the head. I should have known you were gonna cause trouble. Nevertheless you got on so well with the popular kids and I wanted to be a part of that. I felt left out when you were around. I was always in your shadow. I was always laughed at. Mostly it was because of you. Meek, shy, quiet little me. The mouse. I’ve had enough. I’m making a stand. I’m leaving.

How could you do that to me? I know why you moved schools, how could you hurt someone like that? Not only that, but it happened multiple times! Nobody does that unless they have lost they’re mind. And you definitely have, you crazy cow. I hate how you cruel you are; how cruel you have been. You refused to do it this time, so you used me. You took me out of my new wrapper, used me and chucked me away when you were done. You made me. I’m leaving.

I could have never done that myself but you were so pushy. You put that knife in my hand. I remember the gleam of the knife, I remember the blue flashing lights, and I remember the screams. You were in my head. Why do you torment me? I would never have hurt anybody until you came along. You fed my mind with lies and anger to then deny it all. That-well-that pissed me off. I’m glad you’re in pain. You can feel the torment I had when you made me do it. I simply can’t believe you! I’m leaving.

I see now who you truly are. I see now what you’ve come to be like. I know. Have fun with your fake life. Your fake friends: your fake face. You can go and live in a gutter for all I care. I don’t want anything to do with you anymore. You’re a bitch. You’re a liar. I hate you. You did it. Remember that. You ruined my chances. I have new friends who like me as I am. Who have fun and are truthful to me. They don’t lie. They don’t make me feel guilty. And most of all, they’re my friends, and they care that I’m leaving. You ruined our friendship. You did it. Remember that. I’m leaving.

I’m leaving and never coming back. My parents have found me a place to stay. It’ll be safe and away from manipulative, two-faced bitches like you. They’re kind there apparently. They don’t make people torture others, they don’t make them kill and they certainly don’t blame it on the one being tormented!  I’m glad I’m moving away. I get to wear a nice, clean white uniform. I get a comfy bed in my own room. Even the walls are clean, white and soft. It sounds like a lovely place and I’m looking forward to making some new friends there, although, not many students go to this place apparently. Another bonus is there will be a smaller chance of fights because apparently we are watched most of the time. I certainly hope they don’t breathe down my neck all the time like you did. You controlling, scheming tyrant. I’m going now, leaving this wretched place to somewhere that’s quiet and peaceful. It’s a beautiful place with fences around it to keep out the criminals; to keep out people like you. Good bye, my lost friend. Good bye, my tormentor. I will not miss your oppressing ways. I’m leaving.

I hope you enjoyed reading this story, any comments would be appreciated :)

Jack Petchey Awards Ceremony

Jack Petchey Awards
This weekend I am part of the 114 Squadron Marching Band who are opening up the Jack Petchey Awards Evening with the ATC.
Now you're probably wondering what on earth am I talking about? What is a 'Jack Petchey Award'?
Here's a little information on this award...........see this website for more details:
Established in 1999, The Jack Petchey Foundation gives grants to programmes and projects that benefit young people aged 11-25.
The Foundation exists to raise the aspirations of young people, to help them take advantage of opportunities and play a full part in society.
The major focus of their work is the Achievement Award Scheme - you can read about this along with their other programmes in the 'Major Programmes' tab.
The Foundation focuses on London and Essex.
Jack Petchey
Jack Petchey is one of the UK's most successful businessmen. Born in East London in July 1925, Jack came from a working class background with very few advantages. From an early age he showed the entrepreneurial skills that have aided his success.

In 1937 a 12-year-old Jack was prosecuted at East Ham Magistrates Court for working under age. The prosecution evidence was that Jack was carrying vegetables, i.e. tomatoes, the defence being that tomatoes were a fruit - not a vegetable. The case was dismissed!
For more information please visit the Jack Petchey website for more information on this award and how to be a part of it.
Thanks go to The Jack Petchey Award Foundation for their information and use of their website.

Valentine's Day!

14th February....why does that ring a bell?

oh yeah....cus it's Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day everybody!!

You're probably still full from all those pancakes you had the other day but... I hope you all have a lovely and romantic day, be it with your partner, your cat or with a big bowl of ice cream...

Some history about this lovely day for ya.....

On February 14 around the year 278 A.D., Valentine, a holy priest in Rome in the days of Emperor Claudius II, was executed.
Under the rule of Claudius the Cruel, Rome was involved in many unpopular and bloody campaigns. The emperor had to maintain a strong army, but was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues. Claudius believed that Roman men were unwilling to join the army because of their strong attachment to their wives and families.
To get rid of the problem, Claudius banned all marriages and engagements in Rome. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret.
Legend also has it that while in jail, St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine."
For his great service, Valentine was named a saint after his death.

Thanks to History.com for the information! :D

Now you all know where St Valentine's Day came from...

Have a nice day!!

New Instrument

Heya guys! Last night I got the chance to learn a new instrument! I already play the flute to a grade 3 standard but I have yet to take the test.... :L anyway, the Colour Sergent from Northwood has offered to teach me how to play the clarinet! XD Yay! :D I can only just play a couple of notes and it takes me a while to get the mouth right...you have to put your mouth a certain way when playing different instruments... soooo I'll keep you updated on my progress with the instrument, I may be able to play it in the marching band at some point when I get good enough! Blog later! :D
